Corneal Pachymetry

This test measures the thickness of the cornea at different points on its surface. It is very useful for intracorneal ring implant surgery, pre- and post-refractive surgery, treating keratoconus, and for monitoring glaucoma. There are two types of pachymetry: ultrasonic (contact) and optical (pentacam and specular microscope).

The patient should suspend the use of hard contact or gas permeable lenses at least 15 days prior to the examination, and the use of soft contact lenses should be suspended at least five days prior to the examination.
