This exam is widely used to evaluate the cornea in refractive surgery, the early detection of keratoconus, follow-up exams, and corneal ectasias. The exam mainly evaluates these six elements:
- Corneal thickness (pachymetry)
- Corneal topography of the anterior curvature and elevation of the posterior aspect
- Indexes for the detection of keratoconus
- Corneal Aberrometry
- Anterior Chamber Depth
- Density of the lens (natural lens of the eye)
The patient should suspend the use of hard contact or gas permeable lenses at least 15 days prior to the examination, and the use of soft contact lenses should be suspended at least five days prior to the examination.
